"Is the Dept. of the VA really doing that poorly; and should we give the VA some credit?"(Blog Entry 14)

Date: 08/18/2018

Since lately still there are a lot of chatter about the Dept. of Veteran Affairs Administration, even though President Trump and his people, and the new VA Secretary (Robert Wilkie) who has been recently confirmed by Lawmakers & sworn in as the new VA Secretary of the United States of many concerns from the Veteran Community about the future of the Dept. of the VA.

Of course you have the diehard Trump Supporters who will say different and still support whatever Mr. Trump says, does, or not even doing as if he is some god rockstar and never makes mistakes or is never the problem but the solution, but in reality that may be the case in the Trump Supporter's mind of that being true to them because they choose not to look beyond the craze frenzy of their passionate support for their dear President, and because of that it seems to be a very reckless approach on really being able to understand on their part of not knowing the facts behind Mr. President Trumps real and accurate record on handling the VA.

But, this blog entry 14 is really not about Mr. President Trump or his followers; it is about what just the blog title states, "Is the Dept. of the VA really doing that poorly; and should we give the VA some credit?"

Yes, I know many have heard me rant about the VA of all the bad things they are doing, and many overlook all the good things I have said about the VA, and my negative comments about the VA is overshadowed by the positive note on what the VA has done of getting it right, despite all that has transpired in the past or recently with the past VA scandals or the most recent ones, but truth to be told that I have not always said just negative comments about the VA, and let the record stand that I have supported the VA in the past through various approaches of being a Volunteer/Advocate, and as someone who was instrumental with other Veterans of not just promoting a negative side of the VA, but also the good ones, but of course I have never shied away from speaking my mind, and that makes me stand out from many, because if I see something wrong I will call it out, and that is no different in the past as it is today.

Since I have had some very interesting overwhelming experiences in the past with the most recent encounters; I have woken up and got out of my slumber of being too complacent with the VA and stopped giving the VA complete control over my life of my recovery/ treatment program, because I was getting very sick, and I was on a lot of medication that was making my head spin and causing me a lot of complications, and for now I will just tell you that for now, and when my book is published I will explain more in detail.

So, I guess you want to hear some of the good/ positive comments or stories about what the VA has done good not just poorly, but before I do that, I have a question for you: What do you think about the VA or for that matter, 'What do you think of the question of the title above, what is your thought, and yes I am asking you right now, so please if possible, answer the question or at least please ponder on what I just asked?'.

With anything in life we have the good and bad, sometimes more bad than good and sometimes more good than bad, it is as if life goes through cycles just like the weather of seasons for places that actually have real seasons, but through the cycles of life you will see that sometimes it repeats itself or something that cycles in has a different outlook a different experience than before the current cycle that is being or already has processed in. I guess when you look at it the cycles of life is such is life, it is part of the experience of living, and since I am getting older, and I am able to process some of the things I have seen cycle in mylife; I am becoming more aware of why somethings happen to us and not others and vice-versa, and I can give God a lot of credit for that giving me the opportunity and of myself credit to use the free will God gives us to by choice to use discernment, to be wise not foolish, to be more aware of you don't see but what is unseen, than to just go with the norm of the masses of what is being said instead of what really isn't being seen.

So, yes, I do have some thought of my own on what the title of this blog entry is asking, and here are my thoughts on the question above!

Yes, the VA is not just doing poorly in all areas of their comment to our Veteran Community, and yes we should give them more credit that is really being given to them, regardless what I say or others or what the media is trying to tell us, but it doesn't mean we overlook what is still going on with the VA as being broken, and failing the Veteran Community, because something can still be used broken and failing, but still have some purpose of use, but when you use something that is broken it really quite doesn't fulfill its original purpose of what is what intended to be used for, right?

But, regardless, the VA as a whole in my eyes is broken and failing the Veteran Community for many factors in which I have been before in my blogs, and with other social media platforms, but in this blog entry I really not going to focus on those truths of what I believe to be true, but to give you the positives even if it may not be what I would like to do because what I have experienced with the VA or others has really given me a sour taste in my mouth that is long lasting, but regardless, it is important that we just don't focus on the negatives, but also look at the positives, and look at both sides of the spectrum of the VA as a whole at one point, because if we don't we are undermining, and a disservice to those who have sacrificed, and who have put in hours and hours, and years of years of service to our Veterans while working for the Dept. of the VA.

I know for some this may come as a surprise by those who think I am not aware of the positives or don't think it is possible, but if that is the case for some or many; you obviously don't know me at all or what I have been through with dealing with the VA, but for those who have had firsthand experience with dealing with me or firsthand knowledge of my encounter with the VA; they know where I am coming from, and that is really what counts, because this story is not just for you, but for all those who have worked for the VA and have had to deal with so much that many would not be able to endure or let go of with situations that can be very difficult to handle for many, and it takes a very rare breed of kind of person to work at the VA and to still be able to keep your cool as a professional in a very challenging demanding environment that not many are capable of maintaining a job at the VA or anywhere else for that matter odf such a similar workplace because of many factors that I will explain a little in this blog entry, but let's get back to what I was trying to say, shall we?

I am really not going to elaborate on the positives but give you bullet points, and at a later date will explain why to these bullet points, so in essence there will be a part two to this blog entry 14, okay, so here we go on the bullet points of the positives:

  • There are benefits out there for our Veterans because of laws and bills acted by Lawmakers (Getting them to all Veterans is a different story).

  • There are VA staff of Doctors/Nurses/Therapist/ and other professional that do care and put in hours and hours of time to help our Veterans (But, there seems to be less than more in some cases at the VA).

  • Compared to years ago when the VA was just starting out, there care was not as good and the funding was not there in some cases, and the medical field was not as advanced/ and dealing with the mental aspect of a Veteran's mental health disability was still being formed and learned, and was not really known what the best approach would be to treat a Veteran with a mental health or behavioral disability (But, of course there still needs to a better approach and other treatment options than just medicate a Veteran with psychotropic drugs, that have been linked to causing more harm than good in some studies that concluded that not all Veterans do with well with psychotropic medications: Links on the studies, it is obvious the Dept. Va has not concluded to the links of the adverse effects to psychotropic medications, but there are other studies out there that are outside of the channels of the Dept. of the VA, and are some of the links: https://weblaw.usc.edu/centers/saks/documents/KWest-PMediacalIssueInMilitaryAndVeterans.pdf

  • There are hundreds upon hundreds of Volunteers who help the Dept. of the VA that help make the experience for the Veterans and the staff of the VA to meet the needs of the Veterans.

  • There are VSO (Veteran Service Organizations) at most VA facilities that can help you navigate through the bureaucracy and red tape of the VA of filing for your benefits, and etc. (But not all VSO's have experienced or knowledgeable VSO Reps, it can be hit and miss, it just all depends).

  • Not all Va Medical Facilities are having as much problems of others (Once again, it all depends on the VA Facility and who is running it and who are staffed there, and what their funding is like).

  • The advancement of medical technology is still better than a third world country or some medical facilities in the the U.S. (But not all VA Medical Facilities are the same, it all depends on the demographics of the area outside or inside where the VA Medical Center is located, and the funding, and the professionals available to use the medical equipment).

Yes, there is more to add, but I think I am making my point very clearly.

So, even though there is still a lot of what is good coming out of the VA that is being overshadowed from the media, and even myself; how is the VA broken and failing? That is a good question, but I will not answer that at this point in this blog entry, but in part two I will answer that question.

In conclusion to this blog entry 14, it is safe to say that even though there are still Veterans dying in the hands or lack of the hands of professionals at the VA there is no doubt not all VA's are the same, not all who work for the VA are incompetent or unprofessional, it just seems there are more of the bad ones then the good ones. Yes, Mr. President Trump has his hands full with dealing with the VA, and so does the new VA Secretary, and it is going to be interesting if the Trump Veteran Hotline will be useful or really not going to change much, because it is to earlier tell, and time will tell if the VA will be phased out to be privatized due to too much of the negative overshadowing the positives coming out of the VA.

Here is a video about the negative could not find a video that truly spoke about the positive coming out of the VA that is not coming from the VA them self, so now you can understand that it is not too easy to really give the Dept. of the VA 'Ataboys', but this is just one video clip of what is similar to others and recent and is still coming after the great VA scandal of our time during the this current administration of President Trumps, and it seems that there is a lot of negative overshadowing the positives, but the positives are there just got to find them and pray they become more of a habit at the VA instead of being the opposite.

Blog Author (Warrior Tim)Note of Thanks & Thoughts:

Thank you for taking the time of reading this blog entry 14, and I hope it has put things into perspective of not just the negative or the follies of the VA, but help show the good, and of having hope of a new improved transformed or some would like to say reformed Dept. of the VA!
